RIB® Power Metering with BACnet®: Smarter Energy Monitoring for Modern BAS

Modern building automation systems rely on more than simple on/off control; they depend on accurate data and seamless communication between field devices and the central controller. Power metering has become an essential tool for monitoring energy use, optimizing performance, and supporting sustainability goals. When combined with a standardized communication protocol like BACnet®, metered data can be shared across the network with clarity and consistency.
Functional Devices’ RIB® power metering solutions bring revenue-grade measurement and BACnet MS/TP communication together in compact, install-friendly packages. Whether you’re tracking energy consumption for a single load or monitoring multiple circuits in a three-phase system, integrated metering with network communication helps facility managers and automation professionals gain deeper insight into building performance and make data-driven decisions.

Current Transformers
The last piece of the puzzle is current transformers to monitor the load, and we have those as well. We offer a wide range of solid core, split core, and Rogowski coil CTs that work with our power meter and are revenue grade.
- 5A - 10,000A range models
- 333mV output, full-scale
- ETL Approved
- UL 2808 & IEC 61010-1/2 & CSA C22.2
- CE Approved
- Indoor use only
- Made in the USA with Global Materials

The MOD series of devices are optional modules that connect to the output of the Rogowski Coil CTs and convert the output to the 0.333 V analog scale for use in other Power Monitoring systems. The MOD series has options for one, two, or three-phase power feeds. The MOD series devices are DIN rail mountable, are ETL approved, and require 12 Vdc for input voltage.

5 Things to Know About Functional Devices Power Meters
Designed for Seamless BACnet® Integration
Functional Devices power meters communicate over BACnet MS/TP, allowing energy data to flow directly into your building automation system. This simplifies network integration and ensures metering information is accessible alongside other BAS data points.
Revenue-Grade Accuracy Options Available
Many RIB® power metering solutions are built to provide high levels of measurement accuracy. This supports reliable energy tracking for tenant billing, energy audits, and performance verification.
Compact, Installer-Friendly Design
RIB® power meters are engineered with practical installation in mind. Their compact form factor and clear terminal labeling help reduce panel space requirements and speed up field wiring.
Support for Single- and Three-Phase Applications
Functional Devices offers metering solutions suited for a range of electrical systems. Whether monitoring individual branch circuits or three-phase loads, there are models designed to match the application.
Built for Long-Term Reliability
Like other RIB® products, Functional Devices power meters are constructed for durability in commercial and industrial environments. Reliable performance reduces maintenance concerns and supports consistent energy monitoring over time.
Bring Greater Energy Visibility to Your BAS
Accurate power data is only valuable if it can be easily accessed and shared across your automation network. By combining RIB® power metering with BACnet® communication, building owners and facility managers gain real-time insight into energy consumption at the circuit level. That visibility supports smarter load management, faster troubleshooting, and more informed decisions about efficiency improvements.
Functional Devices designs RIB® metering solutions to simplify installation while delivering dependable performance in demanding environments. Whether you are adding energy monitoring to an existing BAS or specifying metering for a new project, our team can help you select the right solution. Contact Functional Devices to discuss your application and take the next step toward smarter energy management.
